The Carpenter position is located in the Facilities Management Service of the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS). The duties of the Carpenter include but are not limited to:
Interpreting oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches. Planning and laying out work to be done, selects the proper tools, determines materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices. Estimates time and material for all carpenter and related work. Plans and completes projects from the initial layout to final assembly and/or installation using only basic shop drawings or sketches; accurately measure and fill in gaps on incomplete blueprints, sketches and work orders. Finished items will closely join to other assembles or structures to strengthen and support the whole framework. Repairs wood furniture such as consoles. tables, chairs, and cabinets. Resurfaces existing casework including the cutting, shaping. fitting, and installing of plastic laminated surfaces. Constructs shipping crates, water tight, for delicate instruments and equipment. Assembles and hangs shelving, cabinets, and other wall or ceiling-mounted equipment including such specialty items as sliding audio/visual units, folding partitions and doors and recreation equipment. Maintains and repairs walls, doors. ceilings, floors, windows, roofs, and trim work as well as all types of caulking and waterproofing as may be assigned. Ensures that site is clean of all debris and equipment upon completion of work. Erects or suspends scaffolding in the performance of duties. Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment. Ensures that all tools and equipment are properly functioning and are safe for use. Cuts and/or closes openings in masonry, concrete, tile or plaster walls and perform necessary tuck painting or caulking of exterior walls, marble, tile tubs and shower areas. Repairs plaster walls and ceilings. Installs or replaces metal. or gypsum lath. Work includes the ability to mix all types of plastering materials such as base coat gypsum, lime plaster, concrete bonding plaster, and finishing plaster. Applies and repairs ceramic and quarry tiles in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices. Sets forms for the finish concrete walks, curbs, roads, steps, and repair walks, curbs, roads, and floors. Prepares surfaces such as gypsum drywall by lapping, applying drywall filling compound, and smoothing. Prepares and finishes wood surfaces, including furniture. Prepares surfaces by filling, shaping and leveling prior to applying a finish coating. Prepares and finishes metal surfaces. Uses leveling and synthetic resins to prepare surfaces prior to mixing and applying pre-coating pickling, or alkalic compounds. Paints and finishes tasks with a prepared product. Applies coating material with any of the accepted trade practice. These will consist of brushes, rollers, etc. Construction of one-of-a-kind pieces of casework such as consoles and cabinets. Experience:

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
The incumbent is required to work from ladders, scaffolds and platforms, many times in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Required to stand. stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using such tools as handsaws and planers. Work requires incumbent to have the ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds. Will request assistance when needed to avoid injury.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
