Department Profile
Psychiatric Medical is a 20 licensed bed unit. The unit provides the most thorough whole person care to psychiatric patients that require med-surg level medical care in addition to their psychiatric concerns.

Job Summary
As a Psychiatric Tech, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere.
The Psych Tech works under the supervision of the professional nursing staff in performing specific duties and ADL in caring for age specific groups of psychiatric patients identified in the position responsibilities. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge Skills, Education & Experience Required
Possesses an adequate knowledge of activities of daily living and vital signs.
Customer service skills.
Exhibits organizational ability, sound judgment and initiative.
Knowledge of psychiatric terminology and various treatment approaches.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required
Two years of college with a major in psychology, nursing or related fields. (preferred)
One year's experience in a healthcare setting. (preferred)
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital's core values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization's Performance Excellence Program booklet.
Performs 15 minute checks on assigned patients focusing on behavior and appearance.
Reports patient status, abnormal problems, and behavioral changes to RN and under the direction of an RN performs defined basic nursing procedures per hospital P&P and behavioral health Standards Of Care.
Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department policy.
Assists in identifying needs and developing/modifying plan of care.
Recognizes potential escalation of behavior and has ability to use appropriate verbal and physical interventions.
Recognizes potential safety hazards, intervenes for the safety of patients, visitors and staff and notifies appropriate department or person for correction of the problem.
Possesses a basic knowledge of psychotropic drugs, uses and side effects.
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade skills. Interacts effectively with other team members.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
