The Public Programs Coordinator will be expected to oversee part-time staff and volunteers, complete tasks including daily scheduling and supply orders with minimal supervision and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
Essential Functions Works with a high degree of independence on multiple projects in parallel.
Coordinates orders for supplies, tracks and codes purchases, organizes programming resources including educational materials, tech equipment, themed decorations, and graphics.
Ensures all pertinent staff documents and training materials are updated as necessary.
Ensures website contains accurate information.
Coordinates training and schedules for Public Programming staff and volunteers Shows a high level of proficiency in all public programming and activities.
Performs regular evaluations on live programs and demonstrations.
Demonstrates exemplary written and oral communication skills.
Able to problem solve with flexibility and demonstrate good judgment in a variety of situations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Degree seeking or hold a bachelor's degree in science education, chemistry, physical science, physics, astronomy, or museum studies.
Experience & Certifications:
The candidate should have experience teaching either informally or in a classroom setting.
The candidate should have strong general science knowledge.
Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to learn by studying supplemental material and researching new ideas.
Strong written and oral communication is required.
Customer service experience and experience speaking in front of large audiences is desirable.
Employee must have a valid driver's license, maintain an acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC's insurance carrier, and have access to reliable, legal transportation that can be driven on behalf of OSC for business purposes.
Preferred Qualifications Experience performing improv or any theater experience.
Administrative or management experience.
Experience developing curriculum for informal science education facilities.
Graphic design experience.
Background and experience in any of the following is preferred:
planetarium, observatory, animal handling, chemistry labs, physics labs, nursing simulators, STEM, and inquiry-based learning projects.
Crafting/maker skills including experience with any of the following:
woodworking, 3D printing, computer design, textiles, paper crafting, leather working, basic tools, soldering.
Knowledge of sound boards and light boards within a theater environment is desirable.
Supervisory Responsibility This position is directly responsible for the hiring, training, and development of part time, seasonal staff members, interns, and volunteers.
Physical Demands Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Moves throughout the museum.
Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum.
Ascends/descends ladders or other equipment to perform various tasks.
Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Communicates and exchanges accurate information with guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone.
Operates a computer and/or office equipment efficiently and accurately.
Manipulates and moves components weighing up to 25 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level.
Occasionally works in outdoor environments.
Frequently works in indoor environments.
Coping with demands and stresses associated with job and work environment.
Kneeling and Crouching (frequently) Weight Levels - Lift, Push, Pull Up to 25 pounds Expected Hours of Work & Travel This position is full time and primarily works 3 days during the week, 2 weekend days.
This position must be able to work weekends and after hour events as needed.
Travel throughout the Central Florida area and beyond will be required to attend conferences/trainings/deliver programs.
Telecommuting This position is required to be onsite 80% of the time.
