Job Summary As a Civil/Structural Substation Engineer you will support global transmission projects performing design engineering and analysis on substation project work. Function as a technical specialist or in a lead role. Independently develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems. May supervise engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity. May serve as a technical specialist providing knowledge and expertise. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output. This position may be located at the Black & Veatch regional office in Orlando, Florida or working from home in Orlando, FL area, or may be a remote position located in the north eastern coastal region of Florida. Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards:
o Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies o Assist in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards o Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines Quality/Continuous Improvement:
o Independently apply knowledge and comply with the Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks o May be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Black & Veatch quality program o Provide related guidance and direction to others o Support continuous improvement and change management efforts Engineering Production:
o Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects o Perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection o Oversee the collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work o Prepare and/or review engineering calculations following standard methods and principles o Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements o Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis o Review lower-level engineering work or assignments o Is responsible for one or more of the following:
leading larger production teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for a project Project Coordination:
o Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on projects o Typically responsible for defining project schedules for a single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines Client Focus:
o Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on projects and may determine the key clients in some instances o Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projects o May offer other services to the clients o May provide support to business development or pursuit activities Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:
o Serve as a technical specialist and have knowledge and skill sets to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area o May support multiple projects with complex technical challenges o Actively foster knowledge management and provide mentoring o Develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems People Management:
o Assist with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required o May participate in career planning, and learning and development Resource Management - (budgets, tools, processes, project support):
o Implement a resource management strategy o Manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline o Resolve resource conflicts and identify training needs Administrative:
o Administrative responsibilities may include office administration o Ensure policies, procedures, and processes are effectively implemented and communicated for a workgroup o Ensure adherence to corporate and division programs o May approve timesheets and expense reports #LI-MK1 Management Responsibilities Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates. Preferred Qualifications The following experience would be preferred based on the work anticipated from the client:
o Experience with the design of utility-scale electrical substations. o Structural design of electrical substation steel structures and their foundations. o Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software such as RISA 3D or STAAD Pro. o Basic foundation design experience using analysis and design software such as L-Pile and RISA Foundation, SP-Mats, and SP-Col. o Solid experience using EXCEL or similar spreadsheets and MathCAD design templates. Written Communications, Drive For Results, Priority Setting, Planning, Delegation, Directing Others, Conflict Management, Informing, Listening, Dealing with Ambiguity, And Building Effective Teams Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following:
criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. Certifications Most positions - depending on the nature of work performed as defined by the division - will typically require incumbents to have professional registration or licensure in their designated home office country, or be in active pursuit of such registration Work Environment/Physical Demands Work Environment:

Sitting, talking, grasping, hearing, keyboard input, driving, seeing, writing, reaching, stooping, crouching, walking, standing for extended periods of time. Some travel may be required.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
